The Assurance of Faith
Believing without seeing

A Poem: Assurance of Faith
Jesus said,
”My father is always working.”
Knowing
Where?
When?
How?
Evades our humanity.
Yet he is always there!
Mending hearts of brokenness,
Loving in depths of loneliness,
Protecting lives
In and through time,
Beyond and behind physicality;
An unseen reality,
A certain actuality.
Always!
How do we know?
How can we be sure?
Assurance of knowing,
When we do not know,
Is called faith.
A Prayer: Lord, I Need Your Assurance
Lord, I need your assurance today!
Assurance you are there,
Hearing this prayer.
Lord, I need your assurance today.
Assurance that you care about
Injustice against the helpless.
Lord, I need your assurance today.
Assurance that you care
About those hurting and in pain.
Lord, I need your assurance today.
Assurance that someday
You will make everything right.
Lord, I need your assurance today.
Assurance that you care,
About everything in my life.
Lord, I need your assurance today,
Assurance to show me my faith is real.
Lord, I believe,
Help my unbelief.
A Passage: For Reflection
“How long has this been happening to him?” Jesus asked his father. “From childhood,” he said. “And many times it has thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
Jesus said to him, “’If you can’? Everything is possible for the one who believes.”
Immediately the father of the boy cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief!”
