A Poem: Ocean at Morning
I stood in the sand’s warmth,
Watching the ocean breathe;
Inhaling wetness that covers my toes,
Exhaling foaming waves that disappear,
Into nothingness;
Into the vastness
Of time,
Of space,
Of future,
Of history.
The beauty takes my breathe,
The power is overwhelming,
The sound calms my soul;
Leaving me content,
Leaving me settled,
Leaving me secure;
Knowing the Creator,
Of the entire universe,
Controls the vastness
Of this ocean;
Controls the moon
Directing this tide;
Controls everything!
A Prayer: A Deep Sea
“You, O eternal Trinity, are a deep sea, into which the more I enter the more I find, and the more I find the more I seek… O eternal Godhead, what more could you give me than yourself? You are the fire that ever burns without being consumed; you consume in your heat all the soul’s self-love; you are the fire which takes away cold; with your light you illuminate me so that I may know all your truth.”
— Catherine of Siena
A Passage: For Reflection
Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: “Who kept the sea inside its boundaries as it burst from the womb, and as I clothed it with clouds and wrapped it in thick darkness? For I locked it behind barred gates, limiting its shores. I said, ‘This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves must stop!’
— Job 38:1,8-11 NLT
