Knocking
Monday Missive 108

A Poem: Knocking
Lord,
How often do we stand
At Your door and knock,
Hoping that you will not answer?
We want to see your face,
But we are frightened.
Like little children we knock,
And then run away.
What are we afraid of?
Your majesty?
Your holiness?
Your wrath?
Or are we really afraid of ourselves?
Standing in your doorway…
Ragged
Dirty
Unworthy.
Help us to knock and wait, Lord.
Help us to wait until you appear;
Until you say,
“Come in, just as you are
A Prayer: Encircle Me
Encircle me, O Lord,
Keep faith within,
Keep doubt without.
Encircle me, O Lord,
Keep hope within,
Keep despair without.
Encircle me, O Lord,
Keep peace within,
Keep anxiety without.
Encircle me, O Lord,
Keep love within,
Keep fear without.
-- Based on the Celtic tradition of prayer
A Passage: For Reflection
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you.
Seek, and you will find.
Knock, and the door will be opened to you. -- Luke 11:9 CSB
